Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is when you and the therapist work together to accomplish goals related to the distress you are experiencing.

When it comes to individual counseling there are a couple of specific things that would differ from therapist to therapist.

Therapist Style

Style is how the therapist’s personality, training, psychological background, and education affect how they relate to clients, what they feel would benefit clients, and whether the therapist’s own transference and beliefs contribute to how they interact with clients.

Examples of differing styles can include how a therapist gives feedback, how manualized their treatment approaches are, and if they give homework or assignments between sessions. Therapists style can stem from their life experiences and can influence how they perceive their clients.

Approach and Technique

How the therapist was trained and educated to manage the issues and challenges that you will present and are facing is what makes up their techniques and approach.

There are several different approaches to therapy including Psychoanalysis, Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, EMDR etc.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about these approaches.

My Approach & Techniques

I use a Client-Centered Approach in therapy. This means that I trust my clients to know what issues they want to work on, and I try to follow their intuitive lead at first. I can be direct with feedback after I have gotten to know my client, and we have established some rapport.

As I have a lot of experience working with clients who have experienced traumatic events, and have attachment related issues. I specialize in techniques that utilize body healing, as well as incorporating insight into emotions and behaviors. This helps aid healing and improves overall coping abilities.

Some of these techniques including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) Inner Child Techniques, Somatic Techniques, and Mind-Body connection.
