Surviving the Holidays Part 2

Set a Holiday intention.

As the the Holidays start rolling on think about what you particularly like about these events. Decide what you will look forward to, family members you’d like to catch up with, types of food you want to enjoy (turkey & stuffing, Am I right?!), or activities you’d like to partake in. And then try to seek these things out as much as you’re able and allow other things to be more flexible, feeling less invested in those outcomes. Going with the flow, if you will.

Think about what traditions or events do you enjoy or look forward to? Do you particularly enjoy making turkey in the kitchen with Mom? Do you love watching your kids open their Christmas Eve Pjs? Do you love getting outside and sledding with the cousins?
Its even worth pursuing intentions with yourself or your partner. Do you want to create new traditions with your partner? Do you want to re-connect with your inner child during these weeks, remembering traditions from ages past?
Focus on these intentions for the upcoming weeks, allow yourself to put energy toward these particular goals and letting other things become more natural or less important if they follow a certain outcome.  Allow yourself to even ASK for these things to occur. “Mom will you help me make that stuffing you always make?”. Try to remind yourself of what you most enjoy through the holidays. And remember that reconnecting with family, and good food tends to be the point in the end.
